Hm. In the early days of computing there were no programming languages such as there are today. Then, to program a computer you needed to use machine code or "Assembly" To store a value in a register for the computer to use you would "poke" it there. To access that data you could then "peek" the register.
So ends today's lesson on peek and poke and how they came to be used in computerese.
