You can just check on the PC and then move to the mac. Dashboard does not need to have the game installed and you can tell it where to look.

You can make Dashboard work on a mac if you use Mono. I don't have a mac so I really don't know the process but I did compile information about it here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=9190.0 Not really sure how much trouble it is.
