Use Jedi Dish Trick at Home & Child/Teen Dish Washing Fix

The Jedi Dish Trick is my pet name for something that has been going on in both TS3 and TS4 when our sims are on community lots. (Pre-Dine Out GP.) When sitting and eating or drinking, once finished they do a little wave of the hand (Very Jedi-like as I see it.) and the empty plate, glass or cup instantly vanishes! All through TS3 I would've loved a mod for sims to do that same trick in their own homes, not just on community lots.

For TS4 I decided to make it, not just because it's quaint and a great time-saver for sims at home, but equally out of a need to end some dish cleaning annoyances.

The Yoda Supreme

Firstly a Fun Motive added as an incentive to push resident sims to clean dirty dishers more often. This coupled with the Neat Trait has sims vanishing away their single dishes almost 100% of the time.

Also, as well as the Jedi hand wave, there is another unique feature included, for collecting many dishes quickly. Many visitors at a house party can leave so many empty plates, glasses and cups all over the lot, as visitors do not use any Jedi tricks in your home, only sims who live on the lot. This next trick will allow our resident sims to walk to the nearest dish, pick it up, then instead of the slow process of walking one-by-one to all other dishes, they just stand there and summon all others to them, no matter where those dishes are on the lot. A skill comparable to Master Yoda himself! The dishes very quickly pile up in the standing sim's palm, then can quickly be shoved into a sink or dishwasher for cleaning. Okay, Marry Poppins probably did that trick long before Yoda, but we're sticking to a Jedi theme here. Unless it can be reasonably argued that Mary Poppins is, in fact, a Jedi. Hmmm???

The Yoda Supreme cuts down on two major game annoyances. The first being that while a sim is walking through every room in the house collecting dishes the traditional way, if they encounter décor that will cause a massive mood change, they will instantly drop all dishes they were carrying to the ground. Not having to walk room to room stops that annoyance.

Secondly, for Dine Out GP users, especially those like myself who have mods for larger visitor numbers to community lots, the dishes at restaurants very quickly become a nightmare. The waiters just cannot collect the fast build up of dishes quick enough, and soon all hell breaks loose. With this mod, the waiters also use the supreme Jedi method to summon all dishes straight to their hands, giving them much more time to take food orders and deliver food to tables.

Dine Out GP is not a required install for the Yoda Supreme version. It is safe for all TS4 players.

Child/Teen Good Manners Dish Fix

This is a mod to stop children and teens rushing off to a sink to clean dishes that don't even exist. An interaction that came with Parenthood GP, it is meant to serve as a means for kids and teens to earn points for good manners. More like earn devious points in deception, or just plain stupidity for doing something so meaningless, futile and fake. This mod stops them attempting this fakery.

Personal Update August 2017 (Not patch related) - August 2017 - Just a little tweak to the two mods here to help facilitate a third, new mod designed to halt the glitch of kids and teens forever getting a Good Manners push to go to sink or dishwasher to clean dishes that don't even exist. A couple of other good modders have attempted this fix, and while using both their mods one after the other, I still experienced the young'uns going at them fake dishes on sinks and dishwashers without hesitation. So I did an overkill version, that has certainly eliminated it in my game. (So far.) Seeing as it's only temporary till Maxis (hopefully) get it sorted, I thought I'd share it in the interim if anyone else has previously experienced mod-ignoring children and teens.

Mary Poppins as a Jedi explains a LOT. :titter:

Update October 2017 - Maxis added preference codes to the XMLs, so now there's a choice between using a kitchen counter sink or the new inclusion of using a pedal sink. Plus they made the attraction of sink usage a bit lower. Though, in my head, I don't see how that will stop kids and teens trying to wash non-existent dishes. They may try less often, and now in a different type of sink, but to me it looks like they are still going to try washing dishes that don't exist just to earn pointless goody-two-shoes points. As such, I have amended the XMLs here with the new info, though that was something of a pointless exercise as the mod still bans them from ever doing it anyway. I like that they don't ever do it, so this mod stays in my game. It's up to you now if you want to keep banning them with this mod, or test out the new values to see if it's less stupid. Still stupid, but less so. If you do try the new Maxis values, please drop a note here of how it's changed in game. I won't know because I won't be removing this mod. I prefer NO STUPID PERIOD.

Thanks for the detailed explanation of what's going on!

I love the line, " I prefer NO STUPID PERIOD." :titter:

The invisible dishes drive me insane. Besides it being an incredibly annoying interaction, maybe I would like the choice to have ill mannered kids who curse and belch up a storm instead of these interactions forcing our little darlings to build up manners.

*joy* The constant walking over to the sink to do nonexistent dishes was really stupid. Thank you so much for no more stupid! Yet another beautiful improvement. <3

I love this mod so much! Thank you for creating it! And it even works with the newest update!

@Eksclusiv  Please read Coolspear's post: http://simsasylum.com/tfm/index.php?/topic/12921-patch-news-november-2017-game-version-136991220/&tab=comments#comment-312437

He specifically requested that no one make any statements as to what works and what does not.  It's never safe to play with mods that are not updated or even checked by the creator yet.  Add on to the fact that he has billions of mods, this could take weeks to go through.

I would suggest removing your mod folder for the time being, but if you choose to play with outdated mods, please do not advertise that you are doing so.  Someone else might see your post and think it's okay and could very well screw up their game.

I'm sure your (and everyone else's) patience and understanding will be something that we will all need to have for some time to come.

I use this mod since version 1.30, but still not get how this mod work. Sometime after my sims eating the plate suddenly disappear and i know that because the mod effect. But sometime plate not dissappear i must clean it manually by clicking interaction to clean up.

So any requirement to make mod always effect when my sims eating?

Sorry for bad english.

Hi @snthe

If the sim has the "Neat" trait they will vanish their dish away almost all the time. If no Neat trait then maybe about half the time, because I also made it a Fun thing to do for sims. Visitors never do it, only family sims who live in that house.

This mod was never set to make everyone do it every single time. Because we all like to buy nice, shiny dishwashers for our sim homes and I did not want to make them totally redundant.

But with Neat family sims, it is about 95% of the time. That's why the second trick of this mod is all about collecting dishes faster, summoning the dish directly to the sim's hand, because not all dishes will be vanished away by the first trick.

And a last note, sims will only vanish away a dish if they were sitting and eating/drinking at a surface. If standing or sitting at sofas holding their plates/cups, they will wash dishes the traditional way when finished, or just be lazy and put it on a surface afterwards.

Thank you for the explanation sir :D

Now i understand how this mod works.

Personal Update - October 2018

I have tweaked these mods to fall in line with the upcoming WSC Restaurant mod set. We've all seen it. Visiting restaurant patrons falling over themselves, rushing to clean away the dishes as the waiters have a pretty hard time doing it. The waiters just fail. They try, but soon drop the pile on nearest table, then stand about for hours as if having a mental breakdown while desperately trying to remember how to carry dishes to place for cleaning. So the helpful diners take over. Enough already!!!

No more diners doing dishes. No more waiters doing dishes either. A new busboy NPC (An All-In-One NPC) , or "busser" to be precise, - to remain gender neutral - will take charge of that duty, leaving the waiters to take orders and deliver food to tables. And these mods here are now tweaked to help the new restaurant mod set do all that very well.

I absolutely the YodaSupreme mod but I noticed it doesn't seem to be in your recently updated mods.  Any chance your planning on updating this soon? 🥺

Funny coincidence is, it was the mod set I was doing for Batuu that made me have to update the Yoda dishes mod. A spooky Star Wars connection. Seeing as Maxis coded Batuu venue like restaurants, meaning no sod does the instant vanish dish trick like they do on most normal non-restaurant community venues, so the dirty plates, cups and glasses are very quickly left sitting everywhere.

Maxis thought it a cool idea for the bar staff to stop serving and go round collecting dirty dishes every so often. An ill thought out and very, very not frikken tested idea that works terribly. Bar staff go to start cleaning, a frikken walk in customer then goes to work behind the bar instead. Dirty dishes still left everywhere. An hour later, 20 sims in the joint are all now bar staff all bumping into each other to get behind the bar and every surface slot in the place filled with dirty dishes or piles of rubbish on the floor where they just drop them if they did "attempt" to clean up. Maxis. Maxis, Maxis.

Yoda's Jedi dish cleaning trick to the rescue. Oh, and also a new dedicated cleaner (like the busboy NPC I made for restaurants) so the dedicated bar staff stay frikken put and the customers stay frikken customers only.

YAS.sounds amazing! Lol, your commentary makes me smile.  Maxis truly does half-ass everything in this game huh? Brutal!
