Doctor Career Reimagined Part 2 - Patients & Hospital - Update to 1.107.151 July 2024 plus New Mods

Here in Part 2 of the Doctor Career Re-imagined set, the mods are specific to patient behavior and the hospital venue. Again you are free to mix and match any of the mods you desire here with any in Part 1.

Get To Work EP is a required install for these mods to be of any use in your game.

Seated Check-In

For this mod to be successful, it will involve some effort on the player's part when building the hospital, to set up the seating arrangements of the hospital's check-in waiting area properly. If done correctly with the right amount of seating for patient traffic, and all chairs within the proximity range and facing towards the check-in desk , then all patients who come to check-in at the hospital's front desk will sit down in a chair, rather than stand up all day in agony.

This mod allows the chairs to be placed at any circumference point around the check-in desk, one big circle, but all the chairs must be facing towards the desk for sims to see them as valid chairs for a seated check-in.

The distance of the chairs is also an important factor. This mod makes the official check-in seating fall within the range of about 5/6 square tiles away from the desk. Any chairs or sofas placed beyond that range and patient sims will not see them as valid check-in seating.

Get the hospital working the way you want it. Your job, your way, you are the boss.

Patients Never Leave & Never Complain

Even with all these mods, it can still be a longsome chore to refer every patient to a bed throughout the working day. Try as you might, there's always going to be a few stragglers your doc just can't get to quickly enough. But now, seeing as they can have a seat and relax, with the soothing hospital radio station playing in he background, why should it be our doctors' fault if there just isn't enough time to get to those still waiting? It's not as if it's your fault the poor sims became sick, is it? And you're still prepared to go the extra mile, to do the long haul, to put in some overtime to get to them all, because you are a living testament to the Hippocratic Oath. So then let's have those impatient patients just blooming-well wait and shut their moaning till our hardworking docs can get to them. This mod ensures it. A good, clean record at the end of a hard workday, because you deserve it. Your job, your way, you are the boss.

Patients Do Not React To Collapsed Sim

During the "Emergency Surgery Event," the random sim comes into the hospital, walks to reception, and then collapses to the ground. This then has almost all of the waiting check-in patients react in shock, panic and gasps. If the waiting patients were already standing beforehand, then this mod won't mean much to you. But if you are using my check-in patients always seated mod, - as I do - then if seeing everyone back on their feet for the rest of the day, not sitting down again, defeating the whole purpose of the seating mod has you annoyed, - as I am - then this is the mod for you. Yeah, it makes them all seem a bit heartless that they don't bat an eyelid when the sim collapses. But, hey, they are troubled with their own worries, pains and illnesses, which is exactly why I made them park their sick little butts in the first place. Your job, your way, you are the boss.

No Hospital Fires & No Running

No Running, simply because I've added it to most venue types, so this one gets it as well. This mod also prevents the outbreak of fires from starting at the hospital. I can't honestly say I've ever seen a fire at the hospital before I made this mod. But what I do know is that fires are allowed on hospital venues by default, yet there is no build mode access allowed on hospitals, (Without cheats) so how are you supposed to replace burnt stuff? Not that I've ever had to, it was just an awkward equation to begin with, so I have ruled it out. After a big fire at the Science Labs burnt a lot of stuff that had to be replaced, which was a real pain in the butt, I learnt a burnt lesson. Ban fires at these venue types! Let's just get on with the job at hand. Your job, your way, you are the boss.

All Patient Pie Menu Options on Front Page - New for July 2024

A helpful Quality of Life change that places any relevant and actionable interaction options your doctor has with a patient on front page. No more having to hit "More Options..." tab to go to second or third page to hunt them down. Front Page News, just the way we like it! Your job, your way, you are the boss.

Patient Outfits - New for July 2024

The hospital gown is cute and all, but does become a royal PIA when cured patients up and leave hospital still wearing it! Then later on down down the line, visiting some other venue that does not force a dress code, that sim comes still wearing the frikken gown! Or when you load up that sim's home, they're still wearing it. Just me? Just my game?  No? Does everybody experience that, or is it just me? So two new flavors in the rar below. Only use one of them. First flavor for the family friendly games, sims wear Everyday most of the time, only changing into Gym outfit for hospital treadmill, then back to Everyday outfit. Flavor two for the more grown up games and gamers, with Everyday mostly, gym for treadmill, naked for X-Ray and Surgery - as it should be. Also the No Running and No Fires at Hospital mod here does a wee bit more than just those two functions. It also pushes some hidden buffs on the building that all on lot must obey. One of which is to prevent reactions to nudity, so that if a child is waiting in another part of the hospital, the game won't have conniptions and threaten to send you to Hell to burn for an eternity if a patient gets nude for X-Ray or Surgery.

Illness Symptom Effects Last Longer - Obsolete as of July 2024. No longer supported. Patient sims get seen to so quickly now, what with all the coworkers now mucking in and doing proper jobs, that the time span on symptom fx is no longer a matter of concern.

Patients Are Played Human Sims Only - Obsolete as of July 2024. No longer supported. Now incorporated into main Coworkers mods. You must delete this older mod if using latest coworkers mods to avoid conflict.

The additional staff mod by an_dz is actually out of date for a while now, But I also have mods in this set that change the staffing in a few ways. See Part 3 in this Career section. The an_dz will conflict with any of the Co-worker Strategy mods in Part 3. The mummy one should be fine as I do not use the same XMLs in any of the doc career mods.

Hey Cool,

I am curious about the comment you made about items and the hospital mod you have. I downloaded your hospital a little while back on the other site, but I haven't placed it in my game yet. Should I wait until you upload the hospital here and redownload it?

  • Author

Good question. I do recall recently changing the flooring in the barista canteen, as the wooden flooring I originally had there was a CC I no longer have, so the floor defaulted to basic cement after I removed all CC. Now it's a Maxis wood floor. So when I upload the hospital here it will have that minor change.

Hey, I know this mod needs to be updated, but is anyone else having an issue where they get thrown to neighbourhood view? Everytime I try to follow her to work, it throws me back (just about to test sending her alone and seeing if that helps me out)

(and I will be posting this to all 3 doctor threads)

Are you playing with an outdated mod or have you not updated your game? I didn't see the doctor career stuff listed on Coolspear's list as updated so if you have updated your game, you should not be play-testing with these mods. Outdated mods can corrupt and mess up several aspects of your game. That would be an obvious reason for the issues you are seeing.

Also, there is no reason to be posting the same thing to each thread in the doctor career section. Thanks.

I'm more than grateful for that mod and I feel guilty for asking if you could check if it's possible make patients to sit on empty beds instead of calling them? cuz while using part of your mod where they sit and watch tv I have to use "debug object" cheat to invite them to empty beds. only patients in the morning comes to empty beds rest of them are lazy to do it and it takes more than a lot of time to call them. and they're like walking dead haha a lot of them

Apparently today's patch (July 18th) fixes the issue with pregnant Sims not showing up to the scenario. I don't know if it actually does or not though since my game is still updating and I don't have a Sim at the required level yet.

  • Author

Hi @Menaceman44Jeez, patch time already! So they say they've fixed the preggers glitch, eh? Only the other week I said it would be ironic of they fixed it now. Seeing it was broken for 9 months straight. Some players could have conceived and had a real baby in that same amount of time. Too blooming ironic.

I know Deaderpool told the devs what was broken and how to mend it - since MC had it (almost) fixed last month. I put "almost" in brackets as even with the MC fix, there is still the odd Last Exception and sim reset when a doc has a pregnant patient on the operating table. So if Maxis have straight up copied MC and Deaderpool's advice to the letter, with no other jiggery-pokery changes, then expect an LE and pregnant patient reset every once in a while. Though that's still far, far better than the horrible state it's been in all this time.

  • Author

Hi @adrianovaI actually have a bunch of new doc mods in testing that do just that. New patient types (Named: Private Healthcare Patients) that come in throughout the day and bypass the check-in queue and jump straight on a vacant bed. Also a new NPC doc type - Physiotherapy Coach and new Physiotherapy patients. And special Hospital Visitors sims who are not sick but just visiting. And a few of the Maxis staff tweaked to be a bit better. And an advanced career level 10 mode that will run your doc ragged with these new patients and many more emergencies throughout the day thrown in that'll test your doc's stamina, skills and mettle.

All on hold until Maxis fix this damn career and I can determine if my newer mods are working okay without the many Maxis errors blindsiding me.

They fixed the level 8 emergency glitch in yesterday's patch.

Quote

Sims who reach level 8 in the Doctor career should now find that pregnant Sims are actually coming to the hospital to complete the Deliver a Baby promotion task.

Can''t figure out how to edit my post,

I've been using this mod for a while and have updated as needed. There's a strange issue with the chairs and patients, not sure if its suppose to happen, but when my sim goes to call them into a room, she will sit down in a chair next to the patient then call them.If there isn't a chair open she can't summon the patient back.I have the chairs facing the right way.

  • Author

That started happening ages ago. If you've been playing the game since release, you'd know well of the messy "musical chairs" elements that Maxis introduced in one of their earliest patches. Sims forever shifting around in a group chat as if they have ants in their pants. Librarians always having to sit down before they can put a book away. Always having to sit down before cleaning a dirty dish, even as bad a changing into swimwear to sit by a pool before cleaning the dish or book.  When I first made this mod it wasn't an issue that appeared in the hospital, but then Maxis claimed they fixed the musical chairs thing in a patch, which they did not. Then they said they fixed it again. They might have toned it down, but it's not completely gone from the game. Trouble is, all that patching trying to get sims to learn how to sit properly, has done something to my hospital seating mod. Nothing directly in the mod itself, just generally how sims sit governed by other patched xmls.

I've seen exactly what you're reporting too in my hospital. But it's never been so bad as to prevent the doc from ever taking patients to beds. The doc now wants to sit down to the left or right of a patient first, much like the librarian and the books issue. So If there is that finickety sat patient, I would start a normal conversation with the sim and then click on other chairs for them to go sit and talk.

If Maxis have not properly fixed this musical chairs annoyance in over two years and two attempts, there's no point in me trying to take a look at where the problem lies. It's too deep in the coding for a thorough fix.

I'll try chattng with them first, see if that helps.Wasn't sure if I was the only one experiencing it or not.Yes, I hate that musical chair issue.I had a mod I used that toned it down a bit but it got outdated. Thanks for the response! Yeah, I'll click admit to bed, and if there's no seat next to the patient(such as another patient sitting next to him) She won't call him into a room, she just stands there lol.

Thank you for your professional mods! :claphigh:

I have a question, I don't know if it is relevant in this context.

In my game experience my hospital patients are only children and adults, no elders or teens.

Is this a game limit or maybe it is a conflict with other mods I have installed?

Thank you in advance.

  • Author

Hi @Geog58Yes, this is a thing that happens in default play, not a conflict as far as I know. But I have actually addressed it in my updated set of mods for doctor career, so that teens and elders also come as patients. The updated set is still in testing at the moment and I hope to be releasing here before the end of the year.

In all likelihood, the pets patch will break many mods, (If Sims history is anything to go by.) so I will probably have to update all career mods after the patch, including the new set which are the only ones I currently use. So that means I will be releasing the new set instead of just updating the old set, there'd be no point updating the old set for patch compatibility since I don't even use the old set any more.

Updated for Patch Version: 1.40

Two mods needed attention:

- Illness Symptom Effects Last Longer - Well I must say, either by coincidence or someone over a Maxis HQ keeps an eye on what mods are new happening out there, they actually helped to fix this very mod only weeks after I released it. From what I can tell, they too have taken steps to reinforce those illness effects that just seemed to die off or become non-existent all too soon. I can't wait to see if this improves it all further in game. Kudos to Maxis either way. I feel like a collaboration is forming here. :hehehe:

- Patients Played Human Sims Only - Needed that new coding on the sim filters to stop the new skeletons types being recruited into the roles. That would be a hell of a line for our docs to get into if a skeleton comes into the check-in reception. "Errr, I really don't think there's much I can do for you, I'm afraid. Maybe some dog repellent, to keep those stray mutts from chewing on your shins? Bye-bye then, yes the graveyard's down the road aways, to the left."

Maybe some dog repellent, to keep those stray mutts from chewing on your shins?

You know, I think you're the only mod author who ever makes me laugh. :titter:

:tusm: and yes, like Corylea said, you've got such a wicked sense of humor! :bwahahaha:

A quote from part of yesterday's patch:

  • Doctors, have you been asked to Deliver a Baby for your daily tasks, only to find that nobody is showing up at the office ready to go? Well, we’ve taken care of that for you! Our baby guarantee states that within the first couple hours on the job, you will be sure to find a pregnancy ready and waiting for your care. No longer do you need to fear losing out on that promotion, the babies are eagerly awaiting upon you!

Will this have an affect on any of these mods? I'm just curious as I'm getting ready to switch to a family where my sim is working her way up the doctor career and if the update does affect any one of these mods I'll wait for an update before I switch over.

Oh, patch joy-joy.

Until I patch my game and know for certain, then please do not quote me on anything I'm about to say next. But I'd say it probably won't, (Famous last words.) The reason for this thinking is I believe ol' slowpokes Maxis are only getting round to repeating what deaderpool implemented into MC several, several, several months ago for this same, longstanding issue. To hear Maxis finally addressing it now after all the kerfuffle and all this time, (14 months or thereabouts) just makes me want to grab a megaphone and go laugh loudly in their slowpoke faces. Well, if MC and my mods did not rub each other up the wrong way over pregnancies and start a fire several, several, several months ago, then I doubt this Maxis plagiarized-from-dependable-deaderpool fix won't either.

But, I can only know for certain once I patch. Which probably won't be till after the weekend because I've only just today played the game properly for the first time since last patch and the updating for that, so this patch can go stand in the corner for a while. Deaderpool and MC are still doing the pregnancy fix thing in my game for the time being, working well with my doctor mods and their increased pregnancy emergencies, and that's all that matters to me right now. None of the other Maxis patch notes have me wanting to rush to patch. They can wait till after I've been to see what this jungle adventuring is all about, and not before then. I didn't get all dressed up in my Indiana Jones outfit for nothing. :hehehe:

Lmao, I understand completely. I was happy to read through the patch notes to find that only one mod *might* be affected. I have been lurking in DP's discord and saw someone ask about MCCC correcting the pregnancy issue because they thought they had read that it did. Another answered and said yes, so the next question was if the patch update conflicted and the answer to that was that EA's would make DP's obsolete, but that DP didn't be seem to be concerned about it. They went on to say that DP fixed the issue, told EA, EA "fixed it" but broke the next line of coding, lol. Fun times for modders all around. I have only delved into the tiniest amount of modding, which is simply adjusting how filling plasma packs, food, and drinks are, removing the negative affect on friendship when vampires have uncontrollable hissing and when they feed without permission. Just checking those with each patch is enough for me to not explore further into the world of modding, so I have much respect for modders such as yourself who've a multitude of mods.

With all that said, I really love the jungle pack. As far as furnishing and decorating lots goes I wish they had given us more plants, but I otherwise have very few complaints. I really enjoy the pack in its entirety. My sim has traversed the jungle twice now, first by herself, and then next with her new Selvadoradian boyfriend. (They're now engaged because why not propose when you're both swimming naked in the pools of some ruins?) She's also adopted two stray dogs, one from each trip, because I love the idea of people rescuing animals during their visit in another country. I have a mod that allows strays to wander all towns, so it's definitely a fitting mod to have for making the vacation worlds a bit more realistic. I'm planning on sending them back one more time, so I can complete my sim's aspiration. Without giving you too many spoilers if you've been wanting to keep the pack as much of a surprise as possible, the new skill you obtain is very profitable, so I'm definitely enjoying that. Although, it's so profitable that it sort of feels like cheating.

Thanks sooo much for the seated check in . the patients standing around was awful ! never thought ppl sitting would be so satisfying

Ummm stupid question but do any of the doctor career mods affect population. I don't know if this is coincidence or not but ever since installing it, I've had babies generating between townies and premades and I'm a little worried some of my sims I specifically don't want having "affairs" will become parents. I did not install any population mods recently.

  • Author

@Cllawson99awson- nice pic. That's exactly what the reception seating mod is all about, and you've demonstrated it perfectly. I, too, the first time I played a doctor career, had nothing but a deep, deep sympathy for those standing sick patients and wondered who could be so callous (or lazy, or both!) to make them do that, even for a game?

@spidergirl79- not stupid, but a very good question. Especially regarding Maxis so-called fixes of late. Now when it comes to the emergency pregnancy events, those NPCs selected for the role (usually not housed, nor played sims) were originally never meant to keep the babies they give birth to. They're only supposed to be temp babies, deleted as soon as the hospital event is over. As you know, Maxis messed up pregnancy emergencies over 18 months ago. Deaderpool fixed it in MC about 8 months ago. Maxis finally pulled out their specialist, slowpoke finger 3 months ago and did their fix. Fix? Yeah, right. Now those NPCs are keeping the babies, as if each were a real birth scenario for real, housed, played sims. Baby boom population explosion ensues. Frikken Maxis. Frikken, frikken, frikken Maxis. So, good question, and may very well be the cause of the baby boom you're experiencing.

I combat this by having a team of 8 specially made homeless, non-played NPCs with unique traits that make them the only ones who can be called to the pregnancy emergency events (Or any other emergency event). And as there are already 8 in the family, they don't get to keep the babies. Frikken Maxis fixes.

Yet another hospital tweak mod I've never released, but may very well have to if others wish to experience same and end the NPC baby boom. Let me know.

Though, as a final note, do you use MC Command Centre? As is does have population "Story Progression" elements to push autonomous pregnancies and births in playable households, and you may have it activated. Or perhaps even Wicked Whims? As that too can push random, auto woohoo, which can also lead to pregnancies and births throughout the world depending on player settings of the mod.

So I have MC Command Center, but I don't have population or pregnancy modules, I don't have Wicked Whims installed either. My game is a lot like Jurassic Park, no unauthorized breeding is allowed! I have autonomous try for baby selected off.

At first it was just townies having babies with each other.

But then a townie had a baby with a husband and father who is (unplayed, game generated, housed) in my game. Then a townie male (housed) had a baby with Miko Ojo (premade, housed, roommate to Darling Walsh, city living). I am living in fear that some of my beloved families (although flagged for no affairs) will still end up fathering babies. I may just pause playing this household for a while (to see if babies keep popping up).

Yep, I'm the same, the John Hammond Overwatch. Not a baby born in my world, (outside of doc career emergencies) that is not first authorised by my strict population control. Hence the mod to stop the NPCs during emergency events breaking this rule. (Maxis forcing the Jeff Goldblum chaos element in my world? Not a chance.)

Is the one you haven't yet released?

Okay well, you said let me know, so I'm definitely interested if it'll keep unauthorised breeding in JP. Your mods make the doctor career so much better and Maxis is just killing it. -_-

Hello Coolspear, I can't follow my sims to work anymore, in doctor career. Tested without other mods. Using the 50/50 method, I found the file where the error occurs: cool1_careerDoc_AllStaffAllDays_NN_NAE_NPE_NS + _MP + _ICE + _HH
  You can check?
