May 2022 major rework of old major rework. Gotta love Maxis.

Ah, these trays. We have been on a journey with these things, have we not? Ofttimes perilous as Maxis broke the original harmony a few years back, making me take a whole other direction to try and salvage what I could, and now come full circle, (I hope, no more going round the frikken merry-go-round with these.) as they have returned to a state much like the original where I can make more harmonious drink trays once again. With the bumpy ride over, we can now return to the smooth, straight road of drink tray wonderment.

So then, in short, I have returned to making the Mega Tray as a standalone clone, its brief purgatory of having to replace the original tray is over. Which also means it once again no longer conflicts with any other tray mods out there. Celebrations all round, the drinks are on me! On all these trays, to be precise. Enjoy.

Many new drinks types added to the Mega Tray, and, joy of joys, many new individual, independent drinks trays once again. Let the happy celebrations rumble on!

The individual trays once again, the sims will restock drinks autonomously. The Mega Tray, they do not. That's left for you to decide which drinks to serve up.

Many more drinks now than originally advertised, all the way up to the - quite big - range of Batuu drinks, and the otherwise impossible to get hold of on normal residential lots, the Paranormal SpecterSip drinks. Spooooky!

And also three special folders in the rar bundle below, for three very special reworked drinks.

A Snagglefluster tray, but a bit different than any other snagglefluster your sims may have had before. Flaming SnaggleFluster is the new name.

The StrangerVille Mamas Milk Tray. Oh, that's a good one. That's some drink, let me tell you. Just let them drink it and watch the temporary insanity ensue. The sims will never come to any permanent or long term real harm. But it's a giggle when they're a mess with it.

(StrangerVille Mamas Milk drink replaces Granny Smash drink, which did absolutely sweet FA regarding anything before the change. But see how I kept the motherhood theme alive between the two. That's me, alright. And trust me, it was the only thing worth keeping from the original drink. You lose nothing, and gain everything.)

And the Vampire Sun Protect drink. When vamps choose the perk to become sun resistant, this nice-looking chalice drink becomes redundant. Why? Now it's more than just a sun resistant thing. Filling your vamps with a little burst of solar energy, now it's a vampire version of coffee, which they like to imbibe autonomously sometimes, to fight off sleep and low energy. And they'll still get the buff to make them sun resistant for a while, even if they don't need it. So not redundant anymore! Yay!

Quick gag - What's the vampire version of caffeine? Coffine... Okay, no more bad jokes.

That's it, I'll say no more. Don't want to write a whole little novelette here, given that at any time Maxis could do a third U-turn on these things. And if so, I will scrap the project completely.

Update June 2023 - Some needed edits due to patch changes and also new drink trays. Bubble Tea being one. There is also an extra mod needed to fix the Bubble Tea Quality glitch. Get that mod here -  https://simsasylum.com/tfm/index.php?/topic/16522-a-fix-for-the-bubble-tea-quality-glitch-new-for-june-2023/

Update September 2024 - Something of a mini-major update here. Nothing patch related is needed, just personal. First of all, a great many new Autonomous Restock Drink Trays added. Loads and loads from all sorts of bar drinks, nectars, rarities and delicacies and even yukky, potentially poison drinks you would only serve to your worst, most hated enemies. I think doubling the amount of total trays. Your sims spoilt for choice.

The most important change is that all the Autonomous Restock trays now come with the feature to switch the autonomous restocking interaction On or Off. That means the Autonomous Tray mods now require the Alpha mod from the On Off set found here - https://simsasylum.com/tfm/index.php?/topic/15049-assorted-onoff-autonomy-switching-base-game-various-eps-update-august-2024/ It is now a requirement and they will be broken/glitched without that Alpha mod.

The single Mega Drinks Tray mod of this tray set does not need the On Off Alpha mod. Though the variety of drinks available on it has not been updated as yet, so nothing new there.

The reasons behind adding the On Off switches is to better organize the flow of drinking during such scenarios as parties, but just as equally when there are no such special Events occurring, but you want the sims on the lot to just go start drinking for a while, at home, on any boring, normal, uneventful day, where they would otherwise ignore drinks on trays or ignore someone working as a mixologist at a bar.  Depending on which trays are switched On or Off, you can guide, herd, sims around the home to different rooms. If a tray is On, it will push one of the sims on the lot to restock it, always happening within seconds such is the potency of the push to restock. Then, with the aid of some new, hidden "Home Drinker" Traits, (More details on the Traits further down.) the sims will love nothing more than to go gather where the tray(s) and the drinks are, and have themselves a little drinks party on an otherwise boring Sunday afternoon. Simply turn the tray(s) Off to end it all. Perhaps also using my Clothes Changing Crystal to also change the attire of sims as you herd them around the house, as it can really make that boring Sunday afternoon impromptu party go with a well-dressed, fashion-fiesta bang. Making your impromptu parties the best parties in town!

The new Traits. In the rar below is a mod to add three new hidden Traits to the game. Which you can then give to any sims you want. If you want a mod to quickly help you add/remove traits to/from sims in a few simple clicks, see my mod here - https://simsasylum.com/tfm/index.php?/topic/14572-sim-cheats-available-on-sims-no-debug-required-updated-july-2024/

The three hidden Traits are 1 - Home Drinker Bars (For Teens upwards.) 2 - Home Drinker Trays (For Toddlers upwards) 3 - Home Drinker Bladder (For Infants upwards.)

Home Drinker Bars will give sims a visible buff that will push them to drink from bars if there is a mixologist working at the bar object. Other than that is does nothing. It does not push them to go get drinks from any other source, nor push them to go tend the bar. As during normal days at home, sims just do not autonomously get bar drinks from a mixologist as there is no role push to do so. With this trait they will drink. And drink and drink. Drink until the mixologist has gone. My preferred method to staff the bars is to summon one of my Virtual Sim Hologram sims to work the bar. As they are already "one of the family," and are friends with all in the family, and will work and work, for days on end if you let them, until you tell them to stop. But you can do whatever you want to put a mixologist to work on a normal, boring Sunday afternoon. Lastly, the Trait doesn't really add to drinks pushing during Party Events at home or when visiting bars and nightclubs, as the roles given to sims during those situations already pushes them to drink from bars.

Home Drinker Trays. Similar to the Home Drinker Bar Trait, but this time the targets are the trays that have available drinks stocked. With this Trait they will drink and drink from those trays, until you turn Off Auto Restocking and there are no more drinks to be had. The Trait is available to toddlers upwards as some trays have child-friendly drinks and one selection on the Mega Tray has toddler specific drinks. (Though not tested if toddlers with this Trait rush to auto grab drinks or continue ignoring them. I'll find out soon enough, or one of you guys can let me know and I'll try to get the toddlers more interested in auto tray drinking.)

Home Drinker Bladder. Indeed, unless you like it real messy with floods of pee on your household floors, either build twenty more toilets on your home lots or give sims this third - essential??? - hidden trait. For ages Infant upwards. Even though infants cannot drink from trays or order drinks from bars, you might be inclined to give them Super Steel Bladders just... because. With this trait, no amount of repeated, endless drinking, imbibing and necking down the liquid goodness lowers the bladder. Super Steel Bladder.  With my debug mod linked above, it's quick and easy enough to remove this Trait if ever you want those sim bladders to return to normal and get your money's worth out of those temporarily-decorative toilets and pottys again.

Word of caution for this bladder trait. When giving trait to sim it should also max the bladder motive too. But not always, as after all this is a flakey Maxis mechanic. But even if it does max the motive in that moment, if you go off and play another family for a while, then return to play the family with this trait, the lot loading mechanics which adjusts - lowers - motives regardless of any reward traits or CC traits you have given the sim will most certainly force the bladder motive to be low, perhaps even desperately low.  (Booo Maxis. Ten years and you still let this happen. Makes you look like amateurs.) Do not command sim to go to toilet to remedy. In the same way the bladder cannot go down, it cannot go up with this specific mechanic. The sim may be on the toilet for quite some time! Use mods like MC to max bladder, or weerbesu's UI mod, or even my Sonic Shower mod to max bladder again. (I have all three so am spoilt for choice.) Although I think if you wait long enough, the visible buff this bladder trait gives the sim will eventually max the bladder. But, you know, flakey, Maxis, whatever. But if the sim is desperate for a pee and cannot wait, then Sonic Shower to the rescue.

All the CC Traits I make are named alphabetically and similarly, so you should always find them very near to top of Trait list when debug window is opened. You will never have to go looking through hundreds of Traits down the list to find them. Always at the top, always easy and recognizable to spot with appropriate names, icons and descriptions.

Finally, this set also comes with its own Alpha tray mod that all Autonomous Restock trays need. Its function is to add a Rename Tray pie option to the Autonomous Trays (Not Mega Tray) so that you can name them to whatever you want, and also a tooltip display for the trays so when hovering mouse over tray object you will see the default name or the new name you give it. A great help for when an empty tray is switched Off and you forgot what type of drinks it spawns. Now you'll know at a glance of the tooltip.

These trays and traits used in conjunction with my Bars On/Off mod from link above, can really have great effects herding sims around the house for a new dimensions to how parties play out either in the home or on community venues. Especially when using the Outfit Change Crystal to bring greater depth to the proceedings. You do need to use the Alpha On/Off mod from that set for theses trays, so you may as well use the Bars On/Off mod as well. Though there are a great many On/Off mods in that set you may also be interested in.

And finally, finally. The two newer drink trays, Sugar Cane from For Rent and the more recent posh lemon-thingy from poolside Kit, have also had a light tweak. They do not have auto restock added. The only change made is to secure any drinks spawned will be of top Excellent quality. That's all I'll ever do to those two trays.

Temporary Note - I'm going to upload the Outfit Changing Crystal here temporarily. (Since I've been singing its praises so much.)  I thought I'd already put it on this site ages ago. But alas not. I probably added it to a bundle rar that's no longer available. When I have the time I will be moving it to its own thread, probably very soon. It's a small, pink crystal, found in Storage/Dressers category. Place it on surface, click for options to change all sims on the lot to any outfit, Everyday, Formal, Gym, Underwear, Party, Swimwear, Hot Weather, Cold Weather and even butt naked. The controlled sim is the only one who does not change, but you can then command the sim to change to nominated attire, or lack thereof! (One day I'll get round to fixing that. Though it's not a glitch, I just need to add another line of code to include the controlled sim in the mass outfit change.)  Always planned to add more costumes to it too, maybe one day.

I wonder, is it possible to makes these clones, so we can serve all trays at once? :whee:

Massive Rework!

The old set has died, but now has risen into something gloriously new! (Picked the right time of the year to do exactly that!)

This is a re-mastered, major update from the original versions. The originals are now very redundant and have been retired and removed, as I'm proud to present this all new reimagining of the Six of the Best Drinks Trays. Now all trays in the set are unique, standalone clones, with unique XMLs specific to each, so you can have every, last one of these in your game all together without any conflict! Marvellous! And the selection of drinks available has exploded to 14 unique varieties! With the magic 15th tray being the star attraction of this new set. The all-encompassing "Mega-Tray."

Happy Easter to you and your sims. And thanks to you all for all the lovely comments and thanks messages you've made these past few months. It has been truly appreciated. So now let the celebration drinks flow from the trays.

Amazing idea! I love it! All of these things look very comfortable and luxurious in the game.Thank you very much! But I'd like to request something: is it possible to remove the autonomous interaction with these objects? My sims love to use these trays so much that every free minute they try to take a drink. I'm tired of cleaning piles of dirty glasses. :) :sillysqueeze::yourockthumbsup:

As already stated in my original upload post, I will not be making any other versions such as non Jedi or non autonomous, due to the amount of work involved making a set, making the new xmls and the biggest job of incorporating all the build mode thumbnails, - 9 x pics for each tray - otherwise there would be a horrible red x when in build mode. It was a big enough job doing it once, and sorry to report I have no desire to repeat. I'd rather spend that amount of effort on making shiny, new mods for you lovely folks. :giggle2:

And if you have not given it a try yet, I highly recommend my Jedi Dish Trick (Yoda Supreme version) mod to help you with those piles of dirty glasses. I can tell you, it's one of those mods most overlook, but once you try it you'll never want to be without it. You certainly won't be mentioning piles of dirty glasses again.

BOOOYYYYYYYY thank you- cuss.-:whee:thank you. I had to edit bc i just realize i am greedy and u didn't have the rootbeer floats and beers:57b262c6811ec_shockedgray: hahaha still i ask for the coffee and u did one better by fixing the cups too soooo much :love7:

Thank you so much for these. Now my sims can really live! Your work is more exciting that any of the stuff packs. Thank you again.

I was wondering what is keeping you from adding beer? We have everything but the beers.

I love this! I love all of your other mods, too.but I really love this one! No more bars or coffee makers cluttering things up. Just put a tray down and you are set. I like to make a few items and then drag them to the dining table when the sims are eating and tell them to drink it, too. They just reach out during their meal and start slurping away. It adds to the realism. Thank you!

  • Author

Thank you. And that's a great little gameplay tactic I never thought of. Just drag a drink to the table where they're sitting eating and tell them to drink. I love it! I'll be sure to use that little gem in the future.

I have a couple more trays of drinks and some fixes for the espresso cup empty states that I've been holding back for a while. I'm just waiting for the next patch any day now, before I release updates or anything new. But I'll drop a quick teaser here about that big community lot world rework mod set I have be talking about for over a year now. It's coming soon. There'll be a brand new "travel" object soon and that will be the precursor to what is essentially a massive set of mods and venues of world changing proportions. And a couple of new drink trays alongside to celebrate the launch.

But for now I'm going to get back in game and try out your nifty suggestion.

Updates July 5th 2017  - (Not patch related. Just a few helpful improvements.)

New Function - All trays can now be carried in a sim's personal inventory. Great for sims bringing the party drinks with them everywhere they go. Or for vampires to carry an instant supply of needed plasma drinks no matter their destination. When visiting world locations that are not on a lot, such as a Go Dancing Party Event at the Windenburg Ruins, the "Live Drag" function is not accessible by Maxis design. Just click "Place In World" while the tray is in inventory, or "Put In Inventory" if tray is on the ground. While tray is on the ground, visiting sims can and will continue to use it. There's even a correct default animation for them to stoop down to pick up a drink.

New Additions - More drinks from Get Together EP - tray of 3 beer types and tray of rootbeer & cream cola floats.

Also a resource fix for the espresso coffees to always display the correct full cup resource.

Happy days and happy trays, folks.

I can officially declare I'm obsessed with your mods, what was I thinking playing without them? So many sim lives were wasted on ignorance and bad cocktails :crying:

  • 4 weeks later...

Thank you! My understanding is, I would need to download the mandatory default(Fizzy) THEN along with any other since they are clones? If I download the Mega Tray I will not be needing the other individual ones, though I could if I so wished, from what I understand?

  • Author

None of them rely on any of the others, not even the default fizzy version here is a requirement, as all xmls and objects for new drink varieties are remade clones and new XMLs. So, yes, the Mega Tray is also a standalone object that'll work fine by itself if that's all you want. The default fizzy here has been given the autonomous restock and Jedi restock interactions to fall in line with the other trays, so that will effect the default object's restock options and autonomous use.

New Additions - September 2017 -Two new additions for the Mega Tray only. The first, not exactly new, a tray for Plasma Jane cocktails only. I found that during vampire gatherings, they'd drink the Plasma Jane cocktails quickly enough, but would avoid the Sunlight Reversal cocktails most of the time. So I made a tray for the Janes only, to keep the vamps happy. The second, a new tray for two toddler drinks of apple juice and milk. Now that our sims can have toddler gathering events, I thought it would be a nice addition for the toddlers to have a tray of their cute little drinks available. I didn't see the need to make these as standalone individual trays like all the others. So they will only be found in the Mega Tray selections.

  • 2 months later...

I suspect that this one is broken because of the last exception error it throws wh en I tried to feed my toddler:  lastException.BlackCatCookies.txt

I know that coolspear is on a break so this is just for the record for him to see when he comes back.

I believe that this entire section still needs to be gone through by Coolspear. I'm sure he will appreciate your letting him know. If you haven't already, you might want to pull that mod from your folder.

Want to let coolspear know that HotTub  nap always visible V2 appears to be broken also. Throws last exception errors and the sims  freeze in place. Also the Mega Tray is also throwing last exception errors. Hope this helps.

It would probably be wise to remove all of Coolspear's mods from these sections until he comes back from Holiday break and decides if, or which mods he will update.  Only the general section is done at this time.

Updated for Patch Version: 1.36-to-1.39

Note 1 - All 16 available trays are now inside a single rar folder.

Note 2 - As of 1.36 Maxis changed something about the Fountain drinks that causes a Last Exception and sim reset with this flavour of tray. I've removed the individual tray and the option in the Mega Tray, so these four particular fountain drinks are currently no longer available via trays. The default method to drink them from the Fountain seems to be problem free, so I'm not quite sure where this Last Exception error has started stemming from. Certainly needs more investigating. Given that Maxis never intended them to be on trays, I can't see them ever fixing it, especially as the default method to drink them seems perfectly fine. Let's hope all these trays don't start going this way, because I'll be damned if I'm going to try fixing them if Maxis keep moving the goalposts. Modding a beta game is pure insanity, and this game can really feel like that sometimes, even after three years.

Coolspear, you deserve a huge hug and a kiss for all your hard work on updating your awesome mods! <3

Updated for Patch Version: 1.40

Not effected by the patch in terms of coding. I just did a personal update on the Mega Tray to include a new tray option for the 2 Jungle pack bar drinks. Also for the tray of toddler drinks to also have 2 water sippy cups. So now it's X2 Milk, X2 Apple Juice, and X2 Water. Only the Mega Tray has been updated. All other trays were not effected by patch nor altered by me.

Personal update March 17th 2018

Amended Mega Tray only.

Have revised and tidied the multitude of pie menu options and divided them into sub menus of five main menus. Bar Drinks, Nectar Drinks, Vampire Drinks, Family Drinks and Espresso Drinks. Now it should be quicker and easier to get to the drinks you want no longer scattered higgeldy-piggeldy over four or five menu pages. Now no more than two clicks away from any tray!  (Okay, okay, 3 clicks if you count clicking on the tray to initiate the pie options to begin with. There's no pulling the wool over the eyes of you guys. :hehehe:

New Addition - April 2018 - A stand alone tray, number 18 in this set, that has 3 x Still Water and 3 x Sparkling Water. Made with plantsims in mind, so they have quick, autonomous access to water which they need to drink.

Thank you one more time!! You're amazing!! :yourockthumbsup:

Updated for1.44

Though that is a fucking understatement-and-a-half. See the main post for more details.

And as said in the main post, it will now conflict with other tray mods out there. So if reading through the posts in this thread, earlier Q&A states that they don't conflict. That was the older versions that Maxis saw fit to destroy. Older statements no longer applicable. This single tray now directly conflicts.

As a result of this change, any of the older trays you had in your lots and venues will be gone and the game will report Missing Objects next time you load the lots.

Again, thanks so much for all that you do.even if it seems as though you are battling uphill.  I love this tray and will be removing Nekomimi's tray.:yourockthumbsup:

Thank you so much! I'm not sure if it's more appropriate to have a minute of silence or a standing ovation for this work you've done - maybe both? :crazyclapping:

  • 3 weeks later...

Just out of curiosity. I notice you have a tray of honey because getting it otherwise can be a pain, but have you considered allowing for a tray full of that most elusive of drinks: the Snaggle Fluster? I know a couple of your other mods provide the drink, but they cause the drink to be consumed immediately. At least with this tray mod, it's possible to delay drinking as well as stockpile quantities of the drink for later use.

  • Author

The six honey pots could not be avoided, as there's only one type of honey, and the idea of it came about as test just to see if it worked. Seeing as honey is in that unique middle ground of being a drink yet food at the same time. (As previously tried and failed with vamp plasma packs on trays.) Plasma Janes get their own six of the same tray due to the obvious necessity. Though the vamp tray did start life as a mixed selection with vamps ignoring half the drinks. Needed a rethink.

The overall purview of the trays is to have a mixed selection. Not straight up six of the same. Other modders did that afterwards seeing as I didn't. The Crazy Tray does have at least one Snaggle Fluster drink on it. Not brilliant, but then again I don't think the Snaggle Fluster that much of a defining drink needing its own tray.

The reason I don't make six of the same normally, as, in a way, inadvertently, you've proved my point. That if I did it for one type (Honey) surely I could do same for others. Then come more requests from members for six only of this, and that. Till clicking on the drinks tray is a nightmare of option selections pages and pages deep to find the drinks you want.

The earlier version of this mod was already heading that way, and I had to have another rethink about sub header option selections. Sometimes it still annoys me as a chore, having to search and pick the wanted drinks. When does this game finally get player voice commands to do stuff?! I'll give you all the drinks trays you want when that day comes! And then some. Plum silly with beverages. :slapnut:

 Fair enough. Thank you for a prompt and considerate reply. This will probably goad me into doing some mod dabbling for myself: something to shoot for.

Personal Update - January 2019 - Some of those standalone clones of trays that sims will autonomously refill are now back in action. Several months have passed now since Maxis changed the object files in the Seasons patch, and Sims4Studio has been updated a few times too, and now it can once again extract the object game files perfectly. Meaning no more horrid-looking shadowy cloned trays. So I did a test run, remade four of them, and they are all good. Four trays in the rar folder. One for Beers, one for Creamy Floats, one for Festival Teas and one for Plasma Janes. Place them down and let sims autonomously fill them themselves. Great for community lots when you just can't be bothered to command your sim to keep doing it. Let other sims do it, and let them cover the cost. Why should your sim always have to pay?! I really missed these on community lots and now they're back! I don't think I'll be doing as many as I had before. Just drinks I know the sims do like to drink. Four for now, and a few more coming soon. I did not give them unique buy mode thumbnails either this time. It broke my heart when the last lot had to be scrapped, and I just don't have the enthusiasm to go to town on them like I did before. Especially if there's a likelihood of another big patch ruining them all again. Lesson learnt. Just keeping it simple.
