Traits - All Hidden Traits Revealed - Important Update March 2023 for patch 1.96

This mod is to add text strings and icons to all those hidden traits you can see when browsing through the debug list when looking to add or remove traits to your sims. Normally they have the generic llama icon and no descriptive text, so it's virtually impossible to know what they are. This mod tidies most of that up. There are still a small few that I've yet to add appropriate icons and text to, but you can count those lame llamas on one hand now. All others you'll now know much better what they are for.

This mod first began life primarily to remove a hidden trait from one of my sims. I had the pollination alien move in with the family of children as she was responsible for impregnating the father, to take on the proper role of motherhood alongside the overworked dad. Yet her hidden trait remained, and as such I could not invite her to any community lots with the rest of the family. Identifying the trait with this mod helped to resolve this issue. Where I could delete the trait, and finally she is able to join the rest of the family on their many outings.

A great many traits identified here, many NPC roles as much as other status and completed goal traits. Please do not ask me what they all do. They range from the obvious to the less certain. I just put the name that was on the XML and gave a relevant thumbnail icon to match the text.

I strongly urge you to save your game before to start to play around with these now unhidden, exposed traits.

To access the debug cheats an external mod will be needed. I use MC Command Centre to unlock debug menus.

Update March 2023 - 1.96 - It's been a while since I wrote anything in this mod thread. I had been adding any updated versions of this mod to a bundle rar these past few years. But it's time to be more tidy and use it's own thread again, and also update the description here to highlight any notable changes.

Firstly the hidden trait for plain, normal human occult needed the new INFANT tag added, otherwise infants won't be seen as human - ouch. Now they will be. Yay!

Also added many more hidden traits from several patches and packs over the last few years, so plenty more explained traits with actual names and better icons to find in the trait list now.

Also removed a lot of "NPC only" tags various special NPCs Maxis has given us over the years. Doing this so that you can actually move them into a home to play with them, work on them in Cas or whatever, and they won't lose their special NPC status or special jobs or be replaced by another sim. I can't guarantee I've done all of those special NPC types, so save game before you move them into a house just in case. And keep in mind some of those NPCs are more trouble than they're worth to try and play with normally or regularly. But if you just want to edit them a bit here and there before making them homeless again, this mod will help you do that. Though if you try with a special NPC and it does break their job, let me know which one I missed and I'll add it to this mod. Though that only means some base game NPCs. Chances are I'll either have my All-In-One NPC mod covering those jobs already, or if it's a special NPC from more recent SPs, GPs and EPs, like old Mrs. Crumplebottom, then I will have them covered in my World Sims Control mods for those regions of the game. Those WSC mods coming soon.

Update 22 April 2017 - Did a quick update a couple of hours after first uploading to include a SECOND hidden Plantsim trait. One is for NPC sims and the other, I presume, is for played sims. But don't quote me on that. All I can tell you is it has two hidden plantsim traits in the game files, so that's what I put in this mod.

Update 26 April 2017 - Another update to cover 4 changes. First off is a correction of a mistake I made. To those keen-eyes users, you may have spotted "Master Fisherman NPC" entry in there twice. Dang, the second one should have read "Master Gardener NPC." Now it does. There's not enough hours in the day to drink all the coffee which I need to function correctly?! Secondly, we have the inclusion of the Human Species trait with text and icon. (That handful of lame llamas getting ever smaller.) And thirdly, a little change to the vampire traits. Maxis did care to give the two traits an apt thumb and some text, but they called them both "Vampire." So which is which? I have renamed them according to their XMLs as "Occult Vampire," and "Occult Vampire Manifested." Which is which, I hear you ask? Good question. Next. Lastly, I have added the language strings which I missed doing the first time. Normally S4S auto-generates the language strings for packages, so at least everyone gets English text rather than nothing at all. But S4S did not do it for this package file automatically, which I only spotted earlier today. I have now manually added all language strings, so hopefully you should see the English names in all languages now, rather than blank text boxes.

It's great, I'll test this, with the cheats (the former mod of the Clown) mc center, I thought yesterday to mod, they are many hidden traits, it's really great to see them, thank you for your work;)

Hello, because this mod wasn't reported as incompatible with 1.30, then I'd like to report my weird issue with it.

This mod prevented a baby spawn after 1.30 update for my sim. Had message about the baby being born and choose name and then nothing, just an error. It worked completely fine up to this point and I really wasn't suspecting it first, so took me a while to find the culprit. Just in case adding lastExeption file too.

This update really messed up many things :O But thanks for keeping your mods up to date, I really appreciate it :)

@Kriiks is the baby for a particular occult type? Might help to know if it's a general birth issue or just for a specific occult.

Edit - Looking at the Alien Pollinator SimData file, there is indeed a tiny discrepancy that came about with the Parenthood patch. I'll be updating and uploading immediately, but can you also confirm if your birth issue was with an alien pregnancy via a pollination abduction. The Last Exception report you posted does state occult, but it does not add which particular occult type.

No, it was a completely normal baby, nothing to do with aliens. And that's really weird, I basically disabled all kind alien interactions in MC. Only packs what I don't own are Vampires and Spooky Stuff and beside of disabling aliens in MC I don't have any occult related mods.

I was thinking of trying new version too and see can I recreate the same error. And no, I'm not using any trait mods anymore, none of them aren't updated for Parenthood "madness", so I got rid of them before.

Could be this mod is reacting wrong thanks to some other mod, but if you say it's occult related, I don't have a clue what it might be.

Just did a first test in game. For a long while now I've wanted the Pancakes family to have another baby. So I got Bob and Eliza in the family way, used MC to fast track the birth. Eliza just now gave birth to a bouncing baby girl Yvonne without any issues. I'll be saving that. Yvonne is a terrific name and the first time I've seen it in TS4.

If this trait mod was the culprit before the update I did today, (Strange as it only needed updating for alien babies from the pollinator.) it certainly seems to be working fine now for this human home birth scenario.

Reading over your initial report again, was the message of another family in the world having a baby, or was it the family you were playing?

Yes, I just finished my test too, it works with the new version!

And the initially failed baby with old mod version was into family what I was playing.

Thank you for a super fast fix! :)

It is really weird tho. why was normal human baby affected, but it works now and didn't before.

Perhaps the game was doing a last minute occult status check right before the birth, and while attempting to confirm that the baby is not going to be an alien, it hit a snag with the pollinator file. Though that might be way off the mark, as I'm pretty sure all those details are confirmed at the conception stage in TS4.

It's also surprising that no-one else reported same issue if it was this mod. This mod has been quite popular, and having babies in the game is a very popular event, inspired all the more to make babies due to the Parenthood pack. You could imagine that would be a lot of players becoming highly annoyed for it to fail right at the end, so surely someone else would have narrowed it down to this mod and reported the issue this past week, if indeed this mod was ever causing such a glitch.

Not everyone is going to get today's update immediately, so there might yet be others reporting same issue. But just to be certain, I'm now going to put the old version back in the game and try another birth scenario. I'll report my findings here after the test is complete.

Edit - Nope, still could not recreate the issue with old mod put back in the game. A human baby born without problems. I even next had Bob abducted by aliens via debug cheat, so he could have an alien pollinator's child. If anything, I thought the old mod might have issues with that scenario. But again, no. The alien baby was born without issues. Last of all I forced yet another alien baby on Bob using the MC command. He had alien baby again without any glitches during birth, or so it seemed. This second alien baby did not look alien, and when I aged the child up to teen, it was 100 per cent human, nothing alien about it. But I'm going to guess that's an issue with MC - if not a random effect of the old version of this mod.

Anyway, I've done all the testing I can with this mod, and it seems your glitch may have been due to something else. But at least your report made me realise that it needed a Parenthood update anyway. All the best, Kriiks.

Thanks for looking into it :) It's absolutely possible that I have an another mod what even if reported 1.30 compatible, has still some issues left. So maybe together they triggered me that weird "baby not spawning" issue (happened ca 10x while I was seeking the cause and triggering birth over and over). But it certainly isn't a problem anymore with your updated version :)

That reminds me now that I read this. The same was happening to me with the old version except if I remember correctly my regular family could have 1 baby, but if it was twins or more the extras would disappear at birth time. I traced it to this mod and just removed it. I never bothered to troubleshoot if it was conflicting with something else and carried on. I will test it again with this version and report back if I see issues again. It wasn't an occult family either, just regular sims.

Updated for Patch Version: 1.36.99.1220

Maxis made the Alien Pollinator trait XML obsolete, but also replaced it with another XML exactly the same (But for the XML number itself, of course.) As to why, I do not have a single clue, but have amended the mod to reflect this XML change and its paired SimData file. Ergo if alien abductions are now having issues getting sims up the duff, we'll know the root of it, at least. (Though I do believe Maxis increased the chance of alien abductions and their pregnancies in 1.36. Which is incredulous, considering a little over a year ago they amended same to be reduced as players were complaining. Polly put the kettle on, Sookie take it off again? Getting the balance right, I suppose?)

Also I made a personal change for the Grim Reaper trait, where I've change the devilish, Evil Trait pitchfork icon, to the more proper Scythe icon. Old Grimsy will be pleased.

No new hidden traits added to the mod as yet. But I am jotting down the ones I find, to finally include here. I will add them soon.

Thank you for the update!  I've found I really missed these trait mods.

Just an FYI.  I had the baby naming issue mentioned above early on and had just removed the mod since it seemed to be fixed for everyone else.  I apparently thought I still had it and got the updated version and kaboom, same error problems.  Now my memory was jogged that I had problems before but didn't remember which mod or whose it was.  Long story short, it's this one.  Here is the error log in case you have a curiosity.  :D

Looking at the error report, it seems to be an issue with generating a baby bassinet. And the report on this thread regarding baby issues several months ago, I did at the time go through it all, testing the updated and older versions of the mod in my own game and I could not recreate the issues.

Of course, this patch is a monster with unknown effects that will take months to fathom. But initially, the issues with alien babies being born and naming them, it baffled me the first time it was reported here months ago, as it still does now, as the Pollinator Trait XML used in this mod has absolutely no coding relating to babies, their names, their births or bassinets.

Quite a simple XML, this is all the info that's on it -

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<I c="Trait" i="trait" m="traits.traits" n="trait_isAlienPollinator" s="112688">
  <L n="ages">
    <E>TEEN</E>
    <E>ADULT</E>
    <E>BABY</E>
    <E>CHILD</E>
    <E>TODDLER</E>
    <E>ELDER</E>
    <E>YOUNGADULT</E>
  </L>
  <T n="buffs_add_on_spawn_only">False</T>
  <T n="can_die">False</T>
  <V t="immune_to_culling" n="culling_behavior" />
  <V t="enabled" n="disable_aging" />
  <T n="display_name">0x8B895EB4<!--Alien Pollinator--></T>
  <T p="InGame\UI\Icons\CAS\Traits\RewardTraits\traitReward_ChildMentallyGifted.png" n="icon">2f7d0004:00000000:c49d8dde3dfc4aa9</T>
  <L n="species">
    <E />
  </L>
  <E n="trait_type">HIDDEN</E>
</I>

And these two lines are all I have amended from the Maxis default -

<T n="display_name">0x8B895EB4<!--Alien Pollinator--></T>
<T p="InGame\UI\Icons\CAS\Traits\RewardTraits\traitReward_ChildMentallyGifted.png" n="icon">2f7d0004:00000000:c49d8dde3dfc4aa9</T>

The top one I added as a name string, the bottom one was already there but I just changed the icon picture to something else. How that can possibly have a knock on effect messing up baby naming and generate LEs for alien babies is utterly beyond me. Not that I have ever experienced the same in my own game. I simply could not recreate the issue when it was first reported. To be thorough, I will try again in game at the next opportunity, but I'm sure I will once again be as baffled as ever. Stranger things...

In the meantime, I will release a temp version here with the Pollinator Trait removed completely from the mod, to see if that tidies it up. Worth a shot, I guess.

Mod removed - outdated by 1.40 patch.

Edit - And it is now just dawning on me, due to the trait issues seen when not having all game packs, is a similar issue happening here I wonder? That I'm unable to recreate reported issues may be because I have all hidden traits this mod covers. It's a theory, not proven. And more to the point, one that I'll never be able to prove in my own game, short of uninstalling any game packs the hidden traits on this mod come from. Though given this mod has had quite a few downloads since first posted, I would have expected many more issue reports by now if that truly were the case.

Your posit in the edit may well be the issue, Coolspear. That would make sense since you aren't seeing anyone else with issues.  With the release of DnC's I am again behind two EP's.  I hope to get GT next, so we will see.  I've never had any aliens (to my knowledge) in game. :D   I will put the temp version in and see if that makes a difference when next I have a baby coming.  As far as I could tell the only issue was with the birthing , so should not be a problem just dropping it in. Might be a few game days as both households just had a child before I have a result for you.

Follow up.  I have two families in this tester hood.  I was not playing the family that decided to give birth first and that birth actually went well.  I quickly popped over there to make sure there was actually a baby, there was.  While I was training up the toddler the other family went into labor and that one threw the error.  I had just done a save a few minutes prior so quit and started in the second house and again the error.

All this leads me to believe you are on the right track when you bring up the traits and EP's and actually makes me wonder if I know what this mod is actually supposed to look like in game. :D I think maybe it just never has really worked in my particular game and I just didn't know it because your other trait mods allowed me to look at things as well.  I'll give it a go when I am able to get GT and see what happens, but thought I would just give you a follow up.

Thanks, Shonie.

I'll certainly give feedback when I get in game and give baby boom and baby naming a try to see what's going on. (I can almost hear my sims complaining now, of being treated like lab animals, for the mass of pregnancies I will be forcing on them across the world just to see what happens during the moment of population explosion baby popping. Then delete that test save. At least they won't have any memory of the test and the abuse. Or so goes the hope!!!)

Updated for Patch Version: 1.41 & all hidden traits to date now included

Most noteworthy of the latest hidden traits now properly named and furnished with a relevant thumbnail, are the three Jungle Adventures Skeleton traits. Now you can add and remove to your heart's content via debug. I was asked if the skeleton traits would be included in my Traits Buyable In Reward Store mods, but they are not the right kind of trait for that set. Just like the hidden vamp or plantsims traits, the skeleton ones go here. Or rather they remain here but now suitably named and thumbnailed  like all others of this calibre.

Also all the fear and obsession "Quirk" pet traits have been named and shamed, so you can now chop and change in debug to further you heart's - and those of your pets - continual and expanding content.

Quite a few others, but you'll spot them as to trawl through the mighty and colossal hidden traits list yourself. (Boy am I glad Maxis finally fixed the list to go in alphabetical order once again. Heaven only knows how long that fix will last before it's back to random, fustercluck listings. It was Maxis who fixed that, right? Don't tell me it was a modder who I'm neglecting to give due credit to for the fix!)

Thank you  for your diligence! You are quite a talented perfectionist, and I am glad we have the benefit of those talents to use playing Sims.  :thank-you:

Thank you so much for this wonderful mod! Now I can tell what traits certain sims actually have and identify ones I have been looking for too!

Only tidied up patch changes on older hidden traits. Have not added any new hidden Seasons traits as yet. Not even sure if there are any. Probably are some, so I'll get round to adding them soon enough.

Personal Update January 2019

Brought to my attention by a diligent member, this mod had conflicting files with another of my mods. Has now been tidied so that the info on the files, shared by both mods, is identical for both and no longer a true conflict.

Updated for 1.51

No new hidden traits added. Maxis just removed a line of code from each of the three hidden vampire bat, mist and fast run hidden traits for whatever reason. So the mod has been updated to reflect this code removal - for whatever reason:57b447a70b144_3(1):

I don't recall there being an issue with these three vamp trait perks? But who am I to argue with what lines of code Maxis choose to remove in a patch. So be it.

Personal Update May 2019

I was toying around in game today, messing around with the spawning of StrangerVille NPCs for the Mother Plant story, and I realized just how many hidden traits this mod is missing, going back further than the Fame EP! I have been making lists of what to add, just never getting round to it. Well today I did. There's a very good chance I might not be moving my game forward beyond 1.51 for a long time to come. But I'll certainly play the game from time to time, and I'll be wanting all my mods to be in the best shape they can be while frozen at 1.51. And here's one that fits that bill.

Easily forty or fifty hidden traits added for better game clarity. There are a small handful more I could add (10 more sitting here on my pc I might still add.) But all the biggies, the most worthwhile, are now in the mod.

BTW - this mod shares four Fame Trait XMLs with another of my mods for better fame stuff. I made sure they have been edited the same in both mods, so that if a mod conflict detector reports the conflict, there is no true conflict. I'll also upload that fame mod too, so grab that if you're using it so these mods are in harmony.

Damn, I just caught an error after uploading. I forgot to include all other language text strings. There's always something I forget. Scatty-brains!  Now sorted. Now it won't be blank boxes for all other languages but English. Yep, still English for everyone, but better than a blank box of nothing! (Which is what Maxis give you for these hidden traits.) Please re-download if you're experiencing blank boxes with no English text strings.

Thank you so much, Coolspear, for the update of this (and other great) mod(s). I wish you a wonderful time and take care of yourself.

Warmest regards from Austria

Hi! After the latest version I have lost some of the fan interaction with celebrities after action "to Try to introduce myself," All but a selfie and a hug. I tried to test it separately from other mods and everything pointed to it. I love this mod and can't imagine my game without it (Oh, it's a desire to know everything about everyone)  but I feel lonely and humiliated after all the celebrities refused to talk to me after a simple "Hello"

Hi Lydia

It is an unfortunate result of having to make this mod be compatible with another of my fame mods as they both include the Fame Trait XMLs. Had I not done this the game would have conflict problems. I presume you do not use that particular fame mod, otherwise you would have long since experienced the gameplay effects you describe due to that mod dumbing down the continuous and overbearing reactions to fame that Maxis seem to think is fine for players to endlessly endure.

When Maxis are finally finished patching this game, only then will I be willing to make alternative versions of mods to better suit individual player preferences. Until then, the only versions I'll be uploading are the ones I use in my own game, as they are the ones I can regularly confirm to be working.

Thank you very much for your answer. And you mean some particular mod of fame? Could you write its name? I have already installed two mods for the reaction of glory or need to install all of the Department of "General mods"?

Этот мод я давно установил

Now I tried to test only these mods and it still caused an error.

I'm not sure why you would be having problems with commanding you famous sim to interact with other sims. Even though I have removed a lot of the silly, overzealous auto reactions sim do when a famous sim shows up at a venue, I did not alter any of the command XMLs. Meaning, when using any fame mods of mine, you should still be able to command your famous sim to do fame interactions with other sims. I don't touch those interactions with mods as they are not autonomous by default. So if they are broken in your game, it can't be because of these mods.

If I get the chance, I will take my famous sim out to a venue and try some fame interactions on other sims, see if there are any problems occurring.

What Fame Level is your sim on? It is important to know this as different fame levels have different interactions.

Checked, it doesn't work for me at any level of fame if the star I'm trying to talk to has a level above mine.

Edited by Lydia

I mean actions like "adore" "insult a celebrity" or "ask about interesting" which are usually available even to those who don't have fame. (I hope you understand what I mean, my game is in Russian and I'm not sure of the correct translation)

Personal update for June 2019

@LydiaThe mods should be working properly now. I updated this one and also the No React To Famous Sim mod. I have tested with both updated mods in game today and all unique interactions between low fame and high fame sims are back in play and working as they should.

There's also a new mod with the No React mod, that removes the cooldown if a low fame sim should fail their questions with high fame sim. They don't have to wait ages to try again, now just three seconds and they can ask their question again.

Thanks for reporting the errors on this. I'm glad it's all working correctly once again - with a new mod added to the set! :57b447a70b144_3(1):

Thank you very much for your work, what you do is wonderful! Wow, now no celebrity will be left without attention:loveshower:

Updated for 1.52

Just tidied up for 1.52. No new hidden traits added since last time. Though there probably is one or two to add. There always is. Hey, you never know, maybe an MTS modder will come and be the champion modder to do something that always bugged them that was never done before. Fucking hero! Yet-a-fucking-gain.

Yours faithfully, Chopped Liver.

(Not this mod. Too fucking hard. Too much work. I know. I believed Kennedy, I Chose to go to the Moon because it is hard. A Chopped Liver exclusive right here.)

Maybe a lot of people like those other mods, but some of us have learned the hard way to choose whose work you trust to be high quality beautiful. That's why we cry when you get fed up with EA/Maxis, and that's why we almost get our fingers broken from crossing them hoping that you will come back to playing. :turose:

Even though I do not like liver, I like exclusives. :smiletooth:
