Permanent Incense Burners + High Room Score (Spa Day GP) - Update December 2024

This mod is to make those quaint Spa Day incense burners stay lit and filling the room with the selected scent indefinitely. Once lit, they will not stop burning until you command your sim to put it out, then it will remain extinguished till you light it again. Even after a loading screen, they stay lit.

I have also reduced the chance for a house fire outbreak to zero. The Maxis default is a whopping 25% chance to kill your sims and reduce their homes to ashes for the default 20 minute pleasure of incense. Incense??? That's just nonsense!!! Methinks not. In real life, I've used these babies in my home all my life, and there was that one incident where I sat on a lit one accidently and got a blister on my butt for the experience, and ruined a decent pair of trousers, but no hospital, morgue or fire brigade were required afterwards. And they won't be required either in your game with this mod. (Any blisters on sims butts I cannot be held responsible for.)

Also the animation chance to smell, sniff, at the scent is reduced, but not removed. It's now been removed, to coincide with the reworked No Auto Smells Good mod. No more sniffing. Enough is enough.

Small Spaces

Not only does it make the room smell permanently beautiful while remaining indefinitely lit, but the incense objects have a very high room score that will help elevate the room buff to be "Beautifully Decorated" without needing to place too many other décor objects. I'm all for splendidly decorating lots and rooms, just look at any of my builds. But sometimes, that small hallway just doesn't have enough space to cram it full of stuff to make it even half-decently decorated. And our sims buffs don't mind telling us the décor is not up to much. May as well just leave a pile of old newspapers on the floor and they'd say "Decorated," almost begrudgingly, like they're mocking your efforts. My perfectionist sims and me want "Beautifully Deorated," room to room and all the connecting corridors in between. Even when they're just sitting on the toilet taking their first dump of the day, rubbing the soothing ointment on their butt blisters, it's got to be beautiful, otherwise I have failed in my task to make each of their homes a masterpiece. So now just place one of these puppies and the smell and the look will be the most beautiful talk of the town. Though one or two more bits-&-bobs added will certaily never go amiss. (Incense instantly makes a room "Nicely Decorated" on its own, so putting one or two more décor objects should bring it to "Beautifully Decorated.")

In summary, now the incense burners are a treat for the visual sense as well as the olfactory one. Making the small spaces of the home equally beautiful, and no bad thing.

Spa Day GP is a required install for these mods to work in your game.

Update December 2024 - Nothing patch related. I just wanted to tidy up a few things that peeved me. I made it much clearer in the pie menu interactions for lighting an incense fragrance exactly which mood it will be stimulating. No more frikken guesswork. Also Maxis had two of the fragrances stimulating the exact same mood, Energized, while one important mood was missing, Inspiring. Really, who needs to be that Energized? So I changed the Lemon fragrance and its relative buffs to now stimulate Inspiration mood and reflect that in the buffs. So that now has all the worthwhile moods covered. Plus the object itself, even if unlit, gives off a high decor room score and also a high Inspiration score. So when you light the Lemon incense the sim's Inspiration will be sky high! Great for placing in kitchens or art studios to greatly enhance the quality of meals or paintings.

I just nearly spit my morning coffee out while reading this! Ha! This is your best description yet. :slaplol:

I always put an incense burner on the back of my Sim's toilets. Now they can have their Sim version of Glade freshness all the time! My Sims and I thank you!

Thank you so much for this thoughtful mod. And for the laughs, your descriptions are always so articulate and witty :)

You're an angel! I stopped using these cause they catch on fire alllllll the time. :loveshower:Thank you!

When I use this mod my sims get a routing error every time I try to get them to "Smell the Aroma", when I take this out it works fine. Is there anything that could be causing this? I don't believe I have any other mods that would be causing a conflict.

Hi @dana94athanks for the report. I'd put the decimal point in the range allowed for auto or commanded smelling in the wrong place. Even a tiny flea would have route fails as it just could not get close enough to smell. Now corrected and tested, all is fine. Even the bigger sized sims will have room to spare when they move in closer for a good sniff. Please re-download.

I just wanted to say another thank you Coolspear. After the fiddling around with your "All traits in Reward Store" mod I actually got the courage to open up this one and have a look at it, because see, I've been wanting to create a really small wall decal or rug with a high room score for some time now and, well, your incense burner is as close as I've gotten to finding one (I've got incense burners everywhere now btw :thumbwinky: ). Partially for the reasons you've given for this mod, it isn't so nice when the decoration moodlet drops in between rooms just because there isn't room enough in the tiny hallway to decorate it more, but also because I'd like to be able to decorate my sims homes as much or little, and in what style I please, as I please - without having to stick to just the items with a high room score.

So. Had a look, found two values I figured I'd try, and made a tiny wall decal. It seems to work in-game, I sure hope I'm not messing anything up at least, and so I kind of got bit by the bug, so to speak. Now I've got little picture frame recolours, paintings and rugs as well. If this all works, well, me very happy. :whee:

Nice idea, dragongirl. Apart from these objects, I've done another gag object with a terrifically high room score and a new, silly buff. The bars of gold décor object. I mean, if I had bars of gold just laying about in my house, I'd think the rooms were as beautifully decorated as they're ever going to be and a matching buff to highlight that golden feeling. Might release it here one day, but I wanted to tweak it with another crazy interaction idea first. "The Midas Touch," is all I'll say for now. Strange things on the golden horizon, for sure.

Thank you again for all your hard work, Coolspear. My game just wouldn't be the same without your mods. :smiletooth:

Thank you for getting to this one so soon. Fire caused by incense was the first "feature" that prompted me to seek out Sims 4 mods.

I would like to thank you so much Coolspear, for updating this particular mod one last time, even though EA is looking to drive you bonkers with their coding changes. No fire mods are incredibly important to people like myself who have gone through the horror of a house fire, and still live with those scars everyday. EA is so quick to set our sims ablaze, but people like you do important work by making sure that no longer happens. So, again, thanks. :yourockthumbsup:

Personal update April 2018

A tweak to remove the chance of sniffing the incense to coincide with the reworked and rereleased No Auto Smells Good mod. Autonomous sniffing is just too overzealous in this game and I can't stand it any longer. Leave the endless sniffing malarkey to the pets, I say.
