Unlocked - Romantic Fire & New Versions (City Living EP)

First we have the Romantic Fire from City Living EP unlocked and now found in décor with all the other fireplace objects. I quite like the fire. The pink glow warming the room of a cosy love pad. But why Maxis only made the one model (and locked it behind debug) is a bit lacklustre. I think this is a glowing, shinning, burning (Enough with the puns already!) example of how they have come to rely on modders picking up the mantle, (Didn't we agree enough with the puns?!) carrying the torch (ENOUGH!!!) and finish the hearth-hearted, sorry, half-hearted jobs they start.

So to that end I have taken up the challenge and made the Romantic Fire into a complete set that can fit the décor style of any home. I've made standalone, partial clones of all other fires in the game, from base game and various EPs and SPs, and tagged them to the resource of the Romantic Fire.

As seen throughout all live mode pictures, the sim has acquired the Romantic Fire buff from these objects, even though it has not been assigned to the lot as a house trait. Not needed. The fires will do the job just dandy without need of the house trait.

I was unable to test if a home saved to the library will keep these objects. In the last patch, Maxis implemented new features into the way lots are saved to the library, and typically, too damn typically, they broke the system. Currently unable to place saved lots from the library. Maxis, they drive you mantle, sorry, mental, don't they?! I would guess that these objects will not be saved with the lot, as that was the Maxis rule with debug City Living objects last time I was able to check.

City Living EP is a required install for these object mods to be of any use in your game. As are the various EPs and SPs required for the relevant fires from those packs. All objects found in Décor / Fires and will not overwrite the original objects they were cloned from.

These should transfer when placed. I've saved some walls and floors that I've unlocked and I've had no problem with those or other hidden objects transferring since the last patch. Thanks for adding this effect to the other fireplaces and not requiring the lot trait though. It's such a nuisance being locked to only three lot traits!

I don't know if you have figured this out or not but; if you save a random room from your save file, you can then place saved lots/rooms from your library. It's a pain in the butt and you have to keep the saved room or save another each time you play. I have a couple random rooms saved under titles such as "Wasteful" or "So Stupid".

I just wanted to note that the upgrades to these objects seems to be broken, the sims do a "Cannot Route To" action and not upgrade the Fireplace, regular fireplaces are fine though. Plus I usually use the Instant Upgrade option for all my upgrading needs.

Just now checked, and all upgrade varieties are working fine in my game. It's been a long while since I did the individual upgrades the long, hard way, but needed to act on your report. Had a laugh, as I upgraded the auto light function first, which meant while sim was doing the second fireguard upgrade, the pink romantic flames were burning her face and hands! If it was not for my no house fire mod, that might have been a lethal disaster for her! :57b447a70b144_3(1):

Then did another fireplace with the instant upgrade. Again no problems.

I only tried with one model, I was not going to test them all. But I cannot see one of them being broken and not all of them as it's the same xmls for the bunch.

So then, are you sure your sim had enough upgrade components in their inventory to do the individual upgrades? Any décor objects sitting on the mantelpiece, or wall mounted objects above, blocking the path? Any other fire mods that could conflict? Was it one particular model, of did you try several types?

It might be a conflict, or like you said there could be something in the way, I'll try again.

PS. would it be possible to add other moods, Like focused or Inspired (perhaps with Matching Colors, if possible) I loved the uption to change the Fire Color in the Fireplace in the Sims 3, it really helped set the mood for Fantasy Households.

Update for September 2018

First added the new-ish Holiday fire from Seasons EP. Maxis actually just made three re-colours of the Holiday fire that comes with the free Holiday stuff. But, what the heck, they're here now with the rest.

Also, for reasons that I could not get to the bottom of, the Romantic Jungle GP fire decided to no let sims upgrade it or manually light it. Causes a route fail if they try to do it with the Romantic version. Why? I don't know. I suspect the object model for pink flames is set back into the hearth a millionth of a degree more than the object model for red flames, and the Jungle fire heath part of the object is jutting forward a millionth of a degree more than all other fireplace models, and that's enough to have the sim universe fall on its ass and sims refusing to work with the objects. To fix this I made the Romantic Jungle fire come as pre-upgraded when placed from build mode. Both auto light and fire safety are now already upgraded. So just place the object and the pink flames of romance will auto ignite when a sim enters the room. Might be the same issue as @GodzillaForce reported in May, but it only effects the Romantic Jungle GP fire, not all.

So, if any of you do experience further Route Fails, please identify the specific model as I know it's not all models.

Update - Took off my lazy slippers (The fluffy pink ones with the Maxis logo) and put on my Just-Test-Them-All-FFS hat, then placed all romantic fires in a room and got sim to upgrade them all. All are fine. No route fails. Only the Jungle fire, which has been given its own unique pre-updated function, so it lights too. This latest test would also highlight the problem with the Jungle fire is that it does not snap to walls like all others, as it's an outdoor fire. So, yeah, that millionth of a degrees footprint stuff mentioned earlier. Also, for an outdoor fire, you would think it would be a little bit more resilient in the rain and not go out as soon as the first raindrops fall. Yet another thing I'll probably amend in future for both default red flame and romantic pink flame. Anyway, all tested. No route fail problems.

I have spotted that some of the environment room scores are out of alignment for some of these objects. (There's always something.) I'll try to set some time aside to tidy that up, but god knows when.

This is the very best thing that I have read all day long!
