Autonomous Social Bunny Deactivation with Extreme Prejudice - New for May 2025

Ever since Turbodriver gave us the news last year that the Social Bunny phone app is yet another shameless contributor to game lag, - and a mod to help reduce the lag potential - https://www.patreon.com/posts/116065084 - I thought wouldn't it also be better for all sims to have their Social Bunny deactivated, too? So with Turbo's mod and Social Bunny deactivated on a global scale, that's gotta be better right? But how does a player go about deactivating Social Bunny on a global scale? One by one, sim by sim? Errr... no. With over six hundred sims in my world, I did attempt doing this, but that was at the end of last year and we're in May 2025 now and I'm still not halfway done. 😫

The thing is, to do it properly, every sim in the world has to be given the hidden trait, that also has a hidden buff, to officially recognize their Social Bunny app is properly turned Off.  Giving them the hidden buff on its own is not enough. It will be removed without the hidden trait constantly enforcing it. So to speed things up in my quest to deactivate app for ALL sims in my universe, first I built it into all residential type homes to instantly deactivate app for all residents, tenants and/or roommates and even temporary lot visitors (I think) associated with that lot. With that mod, just load up lot and all sims relevant to lot will instantly be given official trait and its buff and have their Social Bunny app officially and properly deactivated forevermore. Then there is the new mod here to do it a different way. You can use this mod here with the one in the link above, or just use this one on its own if that's what you prefer. It's up to you. This new mod makes sims autonomously deactivate the Social Bunny app themselves because it is an extremely fun thing to do, with extremely high static commodities to push even harder, - to a sim that is the equivalent of the voice of God in your head commanding you DO IT NOW! Indeed, exterminate with extreme prejudice, no quarter given, no mercy shown, annihilation absolutum. Of course, they only need do this the one time. It's a short war, and one our sims will win with their right to keep and bear mods against the tyranny, oppression and injustice of the foreign Social Bunny invader. So when you visit residential or community lots with this mod installed, soon after arrival you should see most sims pulling out their phones to, - very, very happily - deactivate their Social Bunny app. Your own sim too if they haven't done it already.

If like me you like using MCCC to reduce the speed of world time, then I have also made sims deactivate their phones quicker. The default is sims take seven minutes (seven real world seconds) faffing about pushing buttons deactivating Social Bunny. But if world time is going slower, they take all frikken day doing the deactivating. Not any more. Done in two minutes, (two seconds) and if playing on default world speed time, this will be over in a blip. Phone in and out in an instant I should imagine. (As I don't play default time speed I don't actually know how quick of a blip it will be.)

All in all, hopefully this automated function will eventually and quickly catch all sims, including homeless and worker NPCs who visit venues, and the player does not have to do the wretched sim by sim grind themselves. Social Bunny BE GONE!!!  If you too have six hundred sims or thereabouts, I know you'll appreciate this.

 Thanks for this mod. We don't need TurboDriver's anymore?  Just a question, what speed are you currently using? I was down to 50 instead of 100, everything's getting too long, especially to get through the seasons. Thanks for your answer, too kind:flowersforyou:

I'm a little over fifty, going a little slower than half speed. It seems the perfect fit for me.

Did Maxis fix the issue with Social Bunny? Is that why Turbo's mod is not needed?

Not that my sims ever use it. It always seemed too shallow and limited to be of any long term value. It would get too repetitive too soon, so just don't bother at all. More than that, I don't want the flashing light hinting my sims should check out Social Bunny. Nope, I just want it turned off and hear (and see) no more about it.

hello thank you so much for the amazing mods you give us ! i wanted to know whether this mod goes into the override folder ( i use your quicker sim autonomy ) or just the mods folder thank you sm ☺️

Place this mod in normal Mods folder. I can't think of any other mods that have this unique, singular function as the single XML file used only has the code for deactivating Social Bunny on phone, nothing else. No other phone function data whatsoever. So no Override (of another phone mod) needed in this case.

I have been trying to use this mod for quite a while now, but even if it makes me feel dumb, i have to say it never did work for me ((
I played with placing it in different load order positions, checked potential conflicts (with better exceptions help) and could find none.
Surprisingly, the other mod linked in the description works flawlessly.
I admit i didn't try this mod alone. Because i don't really need to have only this mod in my mod folder xD

So, without wanting to waste anybody's time here, does it work for anybody ? Does coolspear confirms its working ?
And as request for guidance, what could i do better than try to place the mod in an override folder to try to make sure it loads first ?

I haven't patched for a few months now. Since this mod is primarily just an extreme push on the interaction to turn off Social Bunny, making it autonomous - where it otherwise was not - and then making it utterly irresistible for sims to do, it could be these last couple of months with Maxis concentrating on autonomous factors and mechanics in game for the last two big patches, they may have knocked it sideways. I'll need to patch and check latest version of interaction xml to see.

I'm actually gearing up to patch today. Though the outcome of that could have a major impact on my foreseeable future for modding this game. As written in another post recently. If after patch my current healthy save file is once again corrupted, as has been the case for my last five save files these last two years, then I will be throwing the towel in regarding modding until Maxis are gone and have quit patching the game. I simply cannot start a sixth (actually I think that would be a seventh?) new save file. It's utter madness. Nor can I continue playing a corrupt save file. That's madness, too.

My gameplay for close to two years now, has consisted of me playing "immigration officer." Trying to rescue refugee sims from an old corrupted save, moving them to a clean, new save. And since new save files number three, four and five, I am just not keeping up. Maxis patches are killing my latest save files before I get all sim refugees across. I am utterly fed up of this. My sims are scattered throughout so many corrupt save files now, I'm close to losing the plot. And after patching today this immigration officer play style ends one way or another. Either the patch does not corrupt my game, then I can finally add the last few sims and get back to playing normally which I haven't done in two years. Or it does again corrupt, that being the most likely outcome if the last two years and five save files are any kind of record, and I simply shut down for the winter season, and reopen in some far away summer season where Maxis no longer pollute the beaches. "Winter is coming..." I understand Maxis will continue patching the game till September this year, and perhaps even beyond that time frame.

I'll know one way or another by this evening or tomorrow. Beach towel, for throw in, on standby.

Yeah the game is a mess.
I cant say how many saves i abandoned due to corruption myself :-(
Still, im a mod tester at heart, and i love testing stuff offered by modders. That's how i ended trying your work, and why i recently posted about them ahah.
It's okay if you (or any modder, tbh) doesnt update. That's how a mod lives for all games. Sometimes they just have to die due to end of support. And it's totally okay !
I was honestly just very curious if i cant get this mod to work due to outdatedness, or if its something on my end (that is usually the most probable cause xD )
