Is there anything in the code for the spawned insects that would suggest that they can be breed with other insects similar to the way frogs are breed? Or are they not that complex?

Flying moth-like fire ants? 

Thanks I started fishing again, since some of my Vampires prefer a slightly fish oil flavored plasma rather than sucking out another sim's life force. Hehe and frogs are so rare that they're not worth the effort.

Back in the day when playing Sims 3 (I sometimes still do) if I spotted the culprit I'd zap them with a lightning bolt using J. M.Pescado's Bat Box.<-- I think it was this?
