  1. I just need you to know that I really appreciate your mods for the doctor career!! Its my favorite active career but needed much improvement and you really did amazing work on this! Thanks so much, coolspear!

I'm not yet sure if it still works with most recent patches. I haven't quite got round to looking into them. But seeing I'm currently messing with the High School career, students, teachers and venue in the same way as those older career mods, I'm sure it won't be long now before I do examine how they are. I'm actually itching to get my scientist back to the labs, it's been nearly two years since I played those careers. So yeah, soon I'll give them a checkup when the Teen High School is finally fit for purpose and nothing like the crappy Maxis default version.

  2. Hey @coolspear I'm wondering if we can have your permission to post updated mods in your section as a fan-based community to keep some of the popular mods updated? I checked one that I use all the time, and it seems EA did a lot of code cleaning which screwed up almost everyone's work. I use your writing mod that broke with the recent patch. So I made a small update for my own use. When I came here, I see a lot of comments asking when the mods will be updated. I thought "Gee. Cool made a big announcement about retiring from modding. People still want them anyway." I would like to know if it is ok for me to upload a fixed version for your writing mod. No guarantee about the others. I just figure it would be a small contribution as a form of thanks for your years of modding and guidance.

Yeah, if you feel up to it. Menanceman has already done exactly that. He updated the Voidcritter mod and, rather than post it on MTS with all his other mods, he uploaded the 1.63 update in the mod thread here. So great, if you want to do same with a few mods. Kimi says it's fine, as long as I agree. So please, by all means, fix up whatever you feel. It's all good. Thanks, Chaavik.

  3. Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I used the Buffet Tuning for my new Classic Dining Set - find them here:

I did not know that! Hi, @Ingeli if you could please post the links again in the comments section of the Cornucopia Buffet Table mod, then I'll know where your mods are. Since your Buffet Table does rely on that Buffet mod's files, it's best if the links were there. Plus I cannot recall if I saw a link to the Cornucopia Buffet table in your mod description? I know you mention my name (though not spelled correctly) as you mention your mod uses my files. But given that the Cornucopia Buffet Table's files are very unlikely to be broken in patches, - (Maxis simply have no need to re-tread over that old ground. I've only ever updated it to include new foods, never because Maxis tampered with the files.) - it would be nice if there were a link on your end directly to the original table, so those downloading your mod can see the original resource. That's usually the way of it throughout the community; a link and a credit. Thanks.

  5. Hai thanks for all your hard work and what you do. I was just thinking about the gift of sulani power is like the instant upgrade. was seeing if you might wanna look into making it have no delay as well.

    1. coolspear

      coolspear

This is not the right section to make requests. Site rules say do not do that here.  And I don't generally take requests either.

Finally, as I only make mods I'll actually use in game, I'd have to say no to making the Sulani Power an instant trait for all sims. Given it needs to remain an autonomous interactions for the visiting Sulani Spirits to use as part of their event scenario, when giving it to normal sims they too use it autonomously and often, and the regular raindown of volcano bombs becomes somewhat annoying - thank goodness for the forced cooldown delays! The normal sims I'd given the trait to, I took it off them. They just abuse it, it had to go. It needs to remain seldom seen and for event purposes only, as far as I'm concerned.

  6. HI! I was trying to look around your page to see if you take them or not but I couldn't find anything explicit so I'll just come out and ask. Can we request a mod from you? The stuff you've done with expanding storage in the game is amazing! One thing I've always been looking for, and if you've already created it I would love to find it, is a photo album that functions are storage to put photos in. If you haven't, could I please request this? Thank you so much!

    1. coolspear

      coolspear

I was thinking of doing a hybrid Laptop/Rotating Photo Frame. Such that you can store all photos in a laptop's Storage/Memory, but also the laptop, when idle, has a screensaver effect where it regularly rotates through a selection of photographs to display.

No promises on this, as I only looked at the coding the other day of the Rotating Photo Frame while I was doing some tweaks on laptops and imagined it was doable to blend the Frame's display functions into a laptop's screen display coding. I haven't yet tried any tinkering to see if it will actually work. Due to working on other projects, it's presently a back burner project I'll not get round to fiddling with for some time.

I don't generally take requests. But if it's something similar to what I'm already considering, then I'll respond pretty much in the same way I have done here.

Thanks for the nice message, mollipop.

Funnily enough I started going through my mods this afternoon, (Saturday) trying to pick up where I left off last November. Little bit of a mess, to say the least. But I've been plugging away at it all day now. Slow going, I've only managed to get most of the Food & Drink mods up to 1.36 compatibility. (Those trillions of damn recipe XMLs!) I haven't even patched my game to 1.37/1.38 as yet. Hopefully midway next week I'll be doing that, then checking the blasted mods again for any alterations.

I estimate another 10 days till everything is confirmed 1.38 compatible, before I upload anything. Just in time for the 1.39 patch!

  11. now that s4s has been updated will you update your mods?

Always look to the "Patch News" threads in my mods sections for current patch details. It is against site rules to ask modders directly about updating timeframes. I always let members know what's going on with patching and updating in those Patch News threads.

  12. Would it be possible to give us a No Autonomous Browse Web mod? Purty, please? :cheese:

    1. coolspear

Forgot to mention, another trick I've used in other mods, is to blacklist or whitelist various traits that govern who can and cannot interact with an objects. This approach can get very specific, painstakingly so, because you then have to make sure all sims in the world either have or do not have the traits blacklisted or whitelisted. Hands down it's the most accurate for a barring and allowing system, but so much micromanagement involved as you really have to know all your sims and who's got what traits.

I use this system mostly to ban unwanted sims turning up at venues.

The attraction to use autonomously does not distinguish between played or un-played NPC sims. It's an all or nothing deal when it comes to autonomy. The only other way to wrangle it would be to edit the hidden buff_appropriateness for pc usage out of the role XML. Each sim is assigned a specific job with an accompanying role for whatever lot they are on, whether community or residential. All the unique roles have hidden appropriate buffs for the dos and don'ts for each venue type. Some will allow pc usage, other will disallow it. But again this leads it back to an all or nothing situation if adding or removing the appropriateness buffs.

Cloning the pcs and giving them their own new no-auto xmls at least allows for both a do and a don't computer of the same model to be placed on any given lot. The best of both worlds.

I don't know if I've said it in a reply here or when my mods were on MTS, but I won't be dumbing down the default computers any more than I have already. Lest those community cyber cafes and library comps become nothing more than décor objects. Though, having said that, I do at some stage intend to clone a few models of the computers and have them governed by new XMLs I'll make specially for them, thus rendering them totally non-autonomous. So that you can have them at home knowing household sims or invited guests aren't going to jump on them straight away for the rest of the day. It's certainly on my list of things to do, but I can't give an ETA on that right now.

  15. Wondering if I could request a mod from you, @coolspear?   It was actually an idea from someone else, but I thought it would be a great mod as well.

Would you consider making a no autonomous drinking tea and/or coffee?

      Hello Miriah

I've just read your post over on MTS in the No auto drinking mod. I've just posted there also that it will indeed conflict with my No Auto Drink From Fridge mod.

When it come to making tea and coffee no autonomous drinking, I guess you mean from the brewing machines? I did try that once ages ago, but if I recall correctly it was problematic. I can't remember why I didn't persevere with it. Something about it glitching because the sim always has to drink that first cup after brewing. It was a long time ago when I was new to modding, so I gave up back then. The fact that in all this time since no-one else has made a (seemingly easy) no auto mod for it means others may have run into same glitch I did.

If I ever find the time I may take a look at it again, now that I know how to handle xmls a lot better and could probably find out why it's glitching. Or maybe it was because I was a cack-handed newbie back then and was just doing it wrong. I'll take a second look, out of curiosity.

  16. Hello. I am glad you kept modding and only moved. I ma having a slight bit of trouble with this site, though. It is a bit more difficult to wander around. I actually hadn't come here too often before you moved here.so yay for them :). Anyway, I went to the hospital yesterday (in game, lol) and it took forever for the receptionist to help us, my sim was in labor and her hubby was trying to check in. I had to reset him after a while when she finally went back and the Dr finally was there ( he and the nurse were stuck outside). So I was wondering if the mod needed updating.I came here looking to download latest version.hard to find. Just an observation. Hopefully I will get better at it.

      Hello there.

That issue is as old as the Get To Work EP, there from day one. Nothing to do with my mods. Sending your sim to the hospital to give birth has absolutely no connection to the files I used for my Doctor Career mods. I did once try to take a look at why the doctor on duty takes an absolutely criminal amount of time before tending to pregnant sims, but could not see any reason for it. The same story has been told all too frequently on EA Help by non-mod players. Waited so long for doc after checking-in. Clicked on reception again thinking the original check-in must not have been registered. This somehow makes the doc finally move their ass. Go have baby, but then the second check in is still queued so the new parent abandons baby to go attempt another check-in. Whole scenario spoilt through confusion and crap coding. All Maxis I'm afraid. Though I've lost count of how many players over this past year-and-a-bit since I released the mods have PM'd me asking me to take a look at my mods again. I can't blame the players, though. Who wants to believe Maxis is just that rubbish?  The Emergency Pregnancy Event for the career has also been broken for six and a half months now! Guess who also keeps getting blamed for that? Yep, Maxis really are that rubbish and modders take the flak for it.

I'll be uploading that soon. It'll be in TS4 General Mods section when I upload. On my PC, it's in a folder with other object tweaks, such as No Fade Ceiling Lights, and I'm just working my way through the folders before I finally get to that one. Won't be too long.

  22. Hello. I am going to go out on a limb here because I am desperate! You are a modder so I going to assume you know the ins and outs. I hope you know about Sims 3. I have downloaded premium content from the sims3 store. All the sudden content that has been in my game for years disappears. it's only objects, lots and worlds are fine. I have uninstalled, reinstalled and even extracted the content and converted it into packages to put in my mods folder to try and by pass the launcher and it just doesn't work. I can still play the game but all the objects I paid for I can no longer use because they just won't stay in the game! I have googled the issue and tried what they said. I even had a live chat with ea and they were not understanding! If you don't know can you direct me to someone who might? :(

    1. coolspear

      coolspear

It was only very recently I reinstalled TS3 and downloaded all Store stuff again. Just when TS4 got toddlers! Though that was only coincidence. I noticed the launcher was different from I remember three years ago. The 1.69 patch put all the EPs and SPs for the game in a new place in launcher where you have to tick to make sure they all load, or un-tick because all of them together will overburden your game. (If Maxis just made TS3 64bit they wouldn't have to do these silly things. This procedure is them openly admitting they designed the game too weak to take all the EPs and SPs they continually sold us.)

Not only that, but I never used Origin originally for TS3, but obviously using it now to download all my old TS3. What I found out, that was really blooming annoying, is that every other time, all the EPs and SPs were automatically un-ticked and if I load the game all I got was base game and nothing else. Is this the same thing you are mentioning?

Did you install TS3 by discs, or digital downloads from Origin? If it's digital downloads then always start with Origin first. If I click on the launcher first before opening Origin, that's when all the EPs and SPs get un-ticked and I just want to start shouting and swearing.

Open Origin first, start play via Origin. This will then start the launcher running. After launcher opens, get into habit of checking everything is still ticked in launcher, then press play in launcher. That's what I have been doing lately and so far so good, it doesn't automatically un-tick anything.

Is any of this the same problem you are having?

  23. So sorry about the crap on MTS.  I love your work and have used many of your mods in my game.  I agree wholeheartedly with you and your stand on the situation.  I've tried my hand at modding and know how hard it can be and how much work goes into it.  The moderator should have stayed out of it and let you resolve it yourselves.  As for Dr. Chill, I think it's quite rude of him to come back and just take over like that.  I am really glad that you found a new home instead of just giving up.  I'd hate for the community to lose such an excellent modder over some people's lack of tact and decency.

      Hi, aparkison

In devilgurl's case, I can't say for certain, but I would guess that she did not like being told to take down her remakes of DrChillgood's mods, now that he's back on the scene.

devilgurl, like me, had remade a few of his. I did the no smash dollhouse one and faster eating & drinking. The irony in my own case was the dollhouse one is the very thing a month ago where I had my first rude awakening with an unfriendly moderator. A new modder made exactly the same mod, exactly the same, and after I reported this I was given the BS about mine was impossible to find. The double irony being, the new modder took theirs down as an apology to me, admitting to me in a PM that they did not search enough. (Had the rude moderator stayed out of it, I may well have still been on MTS today.) But then DrChillgood came back on the scene and redid his old dollhouse mod. Crazy irony, no?

He approached me and said thanks for keeping his food & drink mod updated in his absence. (In other words, he wanted it back.) I hadn't reposted my dollhouse mod in protest to the moderator, so as far as DrChill was concerned, it seemed nobody had touched it while he was away!

I was actually happy for him to take food & drink back. All the heavy patches these few months made it feel I've bitten off more than I can chew.

devilgurl was not so happy after he posted same generic line to her as he had to me. I remember saying at the time she would not be happy about that, given she has posted her DrChill remakes on various websites. She did, of course, politely refuse DrChill to take down her versions. I guess a certain site moderator told her otherwise.

Me, personally, if a modder has publically announced they have retired, and others takeover their projects, then they should not have the cheek to demand them back if they decide to come out of retirement. After all the hard work devilgurl put into them, they are hers now, not his.

And the final irony. DrChill has only updated those mods that others had taken over. All the ones others did not touch in his absence, neither has he since his return. Sound fishy?

NightTourch also took down his TS4 mods, in solidarity protest regarding my case.
